Kurdish Young cheerful woman near The Ilisu dam on Tigris in Turkey taking a selfie making a heart shape with hands using a mobile phone. The Ilisu dam project will displace up to 78,000 mostly Kurdish people, flood the old city of Hasankeyf, The ancient Silk Road trading post of Hasankeyf, which sits on the banks of Tigris River in southeast Turkey, will soon be flooded by the Ilisu Dam. Hasankeyf is thought to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements on Earth, dating as far back as 12,000 years. It will be completely submerged when a reservoir behind the new Ilisu Dam causes the river to rise some 60 meters in a few months. Ilisu is the fourth biggest dam in Turkey. Turkish government officially began work on the giant dam across the Tigris River, which will lead to the submerging of an estimated 80 percent of Hasankeyf and the displacement of its 3,000 residents, as well as many other people. The Ilisu dam and the Hydra Electric Power Plant will help fulfil the country's energy needs and provide irrigation to the agricultural lands surrounding it. Once activated, the power plant will generate 3,800 gigawatts hours of electricity annually. The project will affect 199 settlements in the area and push thousands of people out of their homes and away from their livelihoods. The government has built a new town with 710 houses for the Hasankeyf residents 3 kilometers away from the ancient town. Ilisu, Turkey 05/10/2019

A general view of abandoned and destroyed the ancient city of Hasankeyf which will soon be under water as part of a controversial dam project. Turkish authorities have started filling a controversial dam whose artificial lake will submerge a 12,000-year-old town and which is the source of tension with Iraq. The small town of Hasankeyf in the southeastern Batman province, home to 3,000 residents, will disappear as the lake is filled for the Ilisu project. The dam is a central part of Turkey's long-running Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP), which aims to develop one of the country's poorest regions through energy and irrigation. L'Histoire disparaît, Hasankeyf, une ancienne ville de 12 000 ans en Turquie. History disappears,ÊHasankeyf, a 12,000 years old ancient town in Turkey.
The centuries-old tomb of Imam Abdullah in a so-called archaeological park in the new town of Hasankeyf. It had been moved from its old location in the ancient settlement of Hasankeyf by low loader. The ancient Silk Road trading post of Hasankeyf, which sits on the banks of Tigris River in southeast Turkey, will soon be flooded by the Ilisu Dam. Hasankeyf, Turkey 06/10/2019

The small town of Hasankeyf in the southeastern Batman province, home to 3,000 residents, will disappear as the lake is filled for the Ilisu project. Hasankeyf, Turkey 08/10/2019

L'Histoire disparaît, Hasankeyf, une ancienne ville de 12 000 ans en Turquie. History disappears,ÊHasankeyf, a 12,000 years old ancient town in Turkey.
A Kurdish woman preparing dough for bread in her house yard in Hasankeyf, The ancient Silk Road trading post of Hasankeyf, which sits on the banks of Tigris River in southeast Turkey, will soon be flooded by the Ilisu Dam. L'Histoire disparaît, Hasankeyf, une ancienne ville de 12 000 ans en Turquie. History disappears,ÊHasankeyf, a 12,000 years old ancient town in Turkey.
Members of Ayhan family carry their family's possessions to their new home in the new settlement which is 3 kilometers away from The Ancient City Of Hasankeyf. The ancient Silk Road trading post of Hasankeyf, which sits on the banks of Tigris River in southeast Turkey, will soon be flooded by the Ilisu Dam. Hasankeyf, Turkey 06/10/2019

The Koctepe village and six in other villages deserted and invaded by filling water is almost fully submerged by the rising waters as the reservoir rises, Turkey's fourth biggest dam. The planned Ilisu dam reservoir would completely or partially flood 199 villages and the ancient town of Hasankeyf, which are home to up to 78,000 people. Additionally up to 3,000 nomadic families would suffer directly. " The small town of Hasankeyf, in Turkey's Kurdish-majority southeast, inhabited for 12,000 years, is doomed to disappear in the coming months. An artificial lake, part of the Ilisu hydroelectric dam project, will swallow it up. The dam, which will be Turkey's second largest, has been built further downstream of the Tigris. Turkey has started filling a huge hydroelectric dam on the Tigris river, a lawmaker and activists said, despite protests that it will displace thousands of people and risks creating water shortages downstream in namely Iraq. Residents are being moved from the ancient town to a 'New Hasankeyf' nearby, while historic artefacts have also been transported out of the area. Koctepe, Turkey 05/08/2006

L'Histoire disparaît, Hasankeyf, une ancienne ville de 12 000 ans en Turquie. History disappears,ÊHasankeyf, a 12,000 years old ancient town in Turkey.

Ilisu, Hasankeyf, Turkey 23/02/2020
